I’ve been using Flymo lawnmowers for over 20 years, mainly the petrol hover mower which is an excellent tool as part of my garden maintenance business I ran alongside working in the family nursery. Flymo hover mowers are great for slopes, embankments and uneven lawns. In fact, we still have a couple of these petrol hover mowers to this day and they still fire up the first time every time.

Like a lot of people, I’ve also had a few electric Flymo lawnmowers which I use for my own garden in the past. These included the old Flymo Glider 330 and 330 Turbo models. I only have a medium-sized lawn and rather than bringing a mower home from the nursery, it was easier to have a flymo at home just for my garden. My first lawnmower was actually a Flymo some 20 years ago!

Now, Flymo might not like me saying this. Flymo are not what it used to be! For starters, is body is no longer made from fibreglass, there now injection moulded plastic and they don’t last 15-20 years like it used to. I personally think you’ve done well if they last 4-5 years now. However, there now very affordable and if I’m honest, is anything made to last these days? we now live in a throwaway society, and most mowers are like this, especially the more affordable models from well-known brands like Bosch, Einhell and Black + Decker. I personally prefer a good rotary lawn mower such as the cordless lawnmowers I recently discussed here or even mowers with a roller for making stripes.

Two rotary cordless lawn mowers I recommend over Flymo

Anyway, I’m getting a little off-topic, back to Flymo.

In the world of lawnmowers, Flymo still has a solid reputation as a trusted and reliable brand, especially regarding hovermowers. However, Flymo no longer just make hover mowers they are renowned for. They also have a nice range of well-designed rotary mowers, of which I review one or two below. They even have the latest lithium-powered robot lawnmowers, such as this Flymo EasiLife 350 Robotic Lawn Mower and I have also reviewed several robot lawn mowers for both small gardens and larger gardens in a separate guide.

This review mostly covers what I think are the best Flymo hover mowers, but before I get into the detailed Flymo reviews further down, I just wanted to mention a few of my favourite Flymo lawnmowers. Firstly, this Flymo Glider Compact 330AX Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower probably being the most advanced. I like that you can easily adjust the cutting height with a turn dial, rather than removing spacers manually to adjust the cutting height. It’s impressive manoeuvrability and powerful cutting capability make it a good choice for small and medium-sized gardens thanks to the 33cm cutting width and larger 22-litre collection box.

Flymo Easiglide 360V
Flymo Easiglide 360V

That being said, I think this Flymo EasiGlide Plus 360V Hover Collect Lawn Mower is a good option and is slighter and larger but it often gets overlooked. This mower has a wider 36cm cutting width but the same powerful 1700W motor but the advantage of a larger 26-litre collection box so more mowing and less emptying. For more extensive lawns though, this is what would be the better choice.

For smaller to medium-sized lawns, the Flymo Easi Glide 300 Hover Mower is well worth considering, with its compact design and a slightly smaller cutting width of 30cm. However, it has the same 1700w motor as the larger 330AX hover Mower. Its worth noting that all these corded mowers have a 10-meter cable. I usually just use an outdoor extension lead.

Flymo Hover Vac 250

If you have a smaller lawn like I used to, maybe a small patch at the side of your house, then this Flymo Hover Vac 250 Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower is well worth considering. It’s highly efficient, simple to use, very compact and easy to store. It collects the grass well and is probably one of the lightest lawnmowers you can get. However, its collection box is only 15 litres, and the cutting width is fairly narrow at only 25cm. What I always tell friends is, if you’re doubting whether this is big enough, it probably isn’t!

For small lawns, it’s a great little mower.

If you don’t collect the clipping and prefer to leave them on the lawn to add nutrients back into the lawn, Flymo does have the same mower without the collection box. I also review this here.

Before I get into the main reviews, I want to talk quickly about the rotary mowers they make. Personally, I prefer the Bosch cordless mowers and even Worx, I also reviewed them in this post. However, this Flymo EasiMow 340R Electric Rotary Lawn Mower is a decent corded budget electric model. It’s the only one that has incorporated a roller into the design to get those stripes on a lawn. That being said, because the lawnmower is fairly lightweight, the stripes don’t stand out like they would on a petrol lawn mower with a roller.

If you want to go cordless like I have with most of my garden tools including cordless strimmers, hedge trimmers and even chainsaws, this Flymo EasiStore 300R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower is well worth considering and offers excellent value for money. It’s compact, folds flat and gives a good finish on the lawn with a 30cm cutting width and 30 litre collection box. It’s a good choice for small lawns, if you have a larger lawn, I’d seriously consider a Bosch or Worx cordless mower, thats what I use now.

As you navigate through my detailed reviews below, you’ll discover more about the unique attributes that these flymo models have to offer. Whether it’s durability, user-friendliness, cutting efficiency, or battery life for cordless models, there is a Flymo lawnmower that’s bound to cater to your lawn care needs and preferences. Let’s mow ahead and explore!

My Top Flymo Lawnmower Reviews

1. Flymo Glider Compact 330AX Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower

This Flymo Glider Compact 330AX Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower is Flymo flagship model but it’s certainly not the best depending on the size of your garden and your own needs. It’s a traditional hover mower, so it floats on a cushion of air across your lawn in any direction you guide it. Overall it’s reasonably well made, about as good as any other Flymo anyway, but it’s it not the biggest. The Flymo EasiGlide Plus 360V Hover Collect Lawn Mower is actually a larger mower with a wider 36cm cutting width compared to this with a 33cm cutting width. This, however is much easier to adjust the cutting height as there is an actual turn dial on the front you use to adjust the height. This replaces the need to remove or add spacers manually to adjust the cutting height and works well.

It’s powered by a 1700W motor and comes with the usual 10m electric power. It does have plenty of power and reach to easily handle small to medium size lawns.

As already mentioned, it has a 33cm cutting width is proportional to this size lawn and the 12-32mm cutting heights.

Watch the video

The collection box compacts the clippings into its 22L capacity, which, while not a large volume, won’t have you running to your compost pile to empty it too often. A quick glance down into the transparent window of the collection box tells you how close it is to being full.

Pros

  • Electric hover mower produces 1700W of power.
  • Cable is 10m long to reach across small to medium gardens.
  • Cutting width of 33cm and cutting height range of 12-32mm.
  • Height adjustment from a single central lever for easy access.
  • Grass collection box is 22L capacity with a transparent window.
  • Dual levers, one on each side of the handlebar for operation from either side.
  • Handle folds down for compact storage and transport.
  • Weighs 9.4kg.

My Recommendation

The Flymo Glider Compact 330AX Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower is a great mower with some welcomed improvements such as the adjustable cutting height with the dial on the front. It’s lightweight, easy to use and gives a well-looked- after appearance to the average domestic lawn. This is a fantastic mower for most people, if your looking for a rotary mower instead, my next pick below might be worth considering. If you are after a hover mower, this is well worth considering.

2. Flymo EasiMow 340R Electric Rotary Lawn Mower

Flymo EasiStore 340R Electric Rotary Lawn Mower - 34 cm Cutting Width, 35 Litre Grass Box, Close Edge Cutting, Rear Roller, Central Height Adjust , Space Saving Storage Features

Flymo has always been known for its affordable mowers. Although they now make some more premium mowers, including their series of robot mowers (not just flymo mowers as some think), they still sell some excellent budget-friendly mowers, and this Flymo EasiMow 340R Electric Rotary Lawn Mower is a great example of one such model. This mower is a corded electric rotary mower with a powerful 1400W motor.

My first impressions were that it was lightweight, has a roller for creating stripes, mowers right up to the edges of the lawn, and overall, just an excellent little mower that does a good neat job. With its 34cm cutting width and 35-litre collection box, it’s more suitable for a smaller to medium-sized garden. The only real limitation is that the power cord is only 10 meters long. This means you may find yourself using an extension cable, but this is not a big deal as most other similar-sized mowers only have shortish cables too. Flymo also sells this exact mower as a cordless model, which may be worth considering. It’s called the Flymo EasiStore 340R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower and is powered by 2 20v batteries, but it’s around double the price.

Flymo EasiStore 340R Electric Rotary Lawn Mower - 34 cm Cutting Width, 35 Litre Grass Box, Close Edge Cutting, Rear Roller, Central Height Adjust , Space Saving Storage Features

Back to this corded version, you have a choice of 5 cutting heights from 20mm for a close cut to 60mm, which is ideal for tall grass. The heights increase in five steps and are adjustable from one central lever on the body of the mower.

As mentioned earlier, the grass collection box has a generous 35L capacity, not the biggest collection box but large enough for smaller lawns. The box has a tongue design on the opening that makes it easy to empty. It’s worth noting the collection box full indicator lets you know how close you are to filling it up.

Flymo EasiStore 340R Electric Rotary Lawn Mower - 34 cm Cutting Width, 35 Litre Grass Box, Close Edge Cutting, Rear Roller, Central Height Adjust , Space Saving Storage Features

Some lawn mower controls favour right-handed people over left-handed ones. But not this Flymo EasiMow 340R. The controls are ambidextrous. Basically, you have to press a centre button, and then the handle to start the mower and the trigger handle are on both sides of the handlebars. It doesn’t matter whether you use your right or left-hand lever to control the mower. I mention this as it’s not always the case, and some mowers can be difficult for left-handed people to use.

That rear roller I mentioned earlier, which makes stripes, also provides stability to the mower when mowing to the edges of the lawn.

Pros

  • Affordable rotary mower, which also incorporates a rear roller for creating stripes.
  • Features a powerful 1400W motor to drive the metal blade to cut grass effectively.
  • The cutting width is 34cm, ideal for smaller and medium-sized lawns.
  • Cutting heights from 20mm to 60mm in five steps.
  • 35L Grass collection box with a full bag indicator.
  • Dual-lever handles for ambidextrous operation with either hand.
  • Features a rear roller for those admired grass stripes and provides more stability when mowing the edge of lawns.
  • Lightweight at around 10kg and compact, easy to manoeuvre and store.

My recommendation

If you’re a fan of the Flymo brand like me, but hover mowers don’t appeal to you, and you’re looking for a rotary mower, maybe for a small lawn. This Flymo EasiMow 340R Electric Rotary Lawn Mower is worth considering.

For the price, it offers excellent value for money. It has a wide cutting width of 34cm but not too wide, a fairly decent 35-litre collection box, and five cuttings heights. It even has a rear roller for creating stripes. Because the mower is relatively lightweight, the stripes are not as good as they might be with other petrol mowers. However, if you have a level lawn, it will make the stripes. Overall, a great budget Flymo rotary mower and some decent features for the money.

3. Flymo Hover Vac 250 Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower

Flymo Hover Vac 250 Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower

If you’re looking for a traditional hover flymo and have a very small lawn to mow, this Flymo Hover Vac 250 Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower would be well worth considering. I do stress it’s best suited for smaller lawns.

If your lawn is any larger, I recommend getting a larger model such as this Flymo EasiGlide 300 Hover Collect Lawn Mower with a slightly larger cutting width and large collection box. For very small lawns though, this Flymo Hover Vac 250 is perfect. it has a cutting width of 25cm, and the 15-litre capacity of the grass collection box both lend themselves to a small garden. However, its small size makes it easier to manoeuvre and store if you have limited space.

Flymo Hover Vac 250 Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower - 1400W, 25cm Cutting Width, 15L Grass Box, Ambidextrous Handles, Folds Flat, Orange and Grey

When it comes to the cutting heights, you adjust it by removing the spacers between the metal blade and the mower. You can choose to cut heights from a close-cut 11mm up by using fewer spacers to 31mm in four steps by adding spaces. This range should cover most of the grass styles you may have in mind.

Its worth noting that the handles are also ambidextrous in that the control levers are on both sides of them. Use either hand to control the mower, depending on what you need to do with the other hand at the time.

Pros

  • The compact hover mower is perfect for small gardens thanks to its compact size.
  • Powered by a 1400W motor, plenty of power despite its small size.
  • The small compact cutting width is 25cm, ideal for narrow lawns.
  • Cutting heights are from 11mm to 31mm in four steps.
  • Compact 15L collection box, ideal for collecting grass clipping from small lawns.
  • Works well on slopes and over bumps.
  • Long 10 meter power cord.
  • Folds flat for storage and can be hung on the wall.
  • Very lightweight at just under 7kg.

My recommendation

If you have a very small lawn to cut and are looking for a Flymo hover mower that also collects, the Flymo Hover Vac 250 Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower is well worth considering. I can’t stress enough that it’s perfect for small lawns, I would say 25sq feet max. Any larger and it would be hard work with the narrow cutting width and small collection box. I think of this as being perfect for those who have a small patch of grass to mow. It is a great little mower!

4. Flymo Easi Glide 300 Hover Mower

Flymo Easi Glide 300 Hover Mower
Flymo Easi Glide 300 Hover Mower

The Flymo Easi Glide 300 Hover Lawn Mower is the next step up from the entry-level Flymo Hovervac (reviewed below) though it looks and feels very similar. Designed with smaller and medium size gardens in mind, it has the same 1300W motor but it powers a slightly larger 30cm metal cutting blade.

The Easi Glide 300 has four cutting height settings from 10mm up to 30mm that gives your lawn a shortcut up through a longer shaggier appearance. The power cord is 12m long, which takes you further than the usual 10m cable. You should be alright in medium size gardens without having to use an outdoor extension cord.

Flymo EasiGlide 300 Hover Collect Lawn Mower - 1700W Motor, 30cm Cutting Width, 20 Litre Grass Box, Folds Flat, 10m Cable Length, Orange and Grey

The collection box has a 20L capacity which is not the largest one that Flymo produces, but you shouldn’t have to visit the compost heap to empty the compressed grass clippings too often. As with all Flymo grass mowers, the dual levers on the handlebars give equal opportunity to left- and right-handed operators.

Pros

  • Electric hover mower produces 1300W of power for your grass chores.
  • Cutting width is 30cm and four cutting heights fall between 10mm and 30mm.
  • Power cord is 12m long which is longer than usual.
  • Collection box holds 22L of compressed grass cuttings.
  • Control levers duplicated on both sides of the handlebar.
  • Foldable handlebar for compact and vertical storage, standing or hanging.
  • Weighs 8.5kg.

My Recommendation

We recommend the Flymo Easi Glide 300 Hover Lawn Mower for those gardeners with mid-size gardens who would like the power of an electric hover mower that’s easy to use and that collects the grass clippings for them.

5. Flymo EasiStore 300R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower

Flymo EasiStore 300R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower - 40 V Battery (20 V x 2 Including Charger), 30 cm Cutting Width, 30 Litre Grass Box, Close Edge Cutting, Rear Roller, Space Saving Storage Features

Mobility is the keyword with the Flymo EasiStore 300R Li Cordless Lawn Mower. First of all it’s a more traditional rotary mower and not a hover mower. It’s powered by two 20V Lithium-ion batteries which are included with your purchase. You no longer have to be tethered by an electric cord when cutting the grass and can roam where you please.

The batteries charge to full from completely discharged in three hours, so you may want to have a spare set ready to go if you’re mowing a large lawn. This may be why the manufacturer states that this Flymo cordless mower is best for small to medium size gardens and with a 30cm cutting width we also agree. The cutting width of 30cm supports this garden size, as does the cutting height range of 25mm to 65mm (in three steps), though you won’t get a really close-cropped lawn. The height is adjustable through an easy-to-get-to central lever.

Flymo EasiStore 300R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower - 40 V Battery (20 V x 2 Including Charger), 30 cm Cutting Width, 30 Litre Grass Box, Close Edge Cutting, Rear Roller, Space Saving Storage Features

Mobility is also built into using the lawn mower ambidextrously. Left-handed people have been thought of here. The operating lever is duplicated on both sides of the handlebar, so you can use either hand. Or you can switch which hand you hold the power lever with if one gets tired.

Mobility is in the upscale look of your mowed lawn when using this Flymo mower. what I really like is that there is a rear roller that creates the awe-inspiring stripes you see at Wimbledon and on the bowling green, something many models simply don’t have.

Pros

  • Cordless rotary lawn mower runs on two 20V Lithium-ion batteries (included).
  • Batteries charge from empty to full in three hours.
  • Cutting width is 30cm and the cutting height range is from 25mm – 65mm.
  • Grass collection box holds 30L of grass clippings.
  • Central manual height adjustment for easy access.
  • Rear roller creates stripes on your lawn.
  • Lever handles on both sides of the handlebar so you can operate the lawn mower with either hand.
  • Handlebar folds down for compact vertical storage and transport.
  • Weighs 8.8kg.

Cons

  • Not suitable for large gardens.

My Recommendation

The Flymo EasiStore 300R Li Cordless Rotary Lawn Mower sets you free in your lawn cutting task. I recommend it for anyone whose lawn is not near an outside power outlet or who has patches of grass all over the place that they need to keep trim. And especially for those who really want stripes on their lawn, as this Flymo will create those stripes that most lawnmowers can’t.

6. Flymo EasiGlide Plus 360V Hover Collect Lawn Mower

Flymo EasiGlide Plus 360V Hover Collect Lawn Mower - 1800W Motor, 36cm Cutting Width, 26 Litre Grass Box, Folds Flat, 10m Cable Length, Orange and Grey

The Flymo EasiGlide Plus 360V Hover Collect Lawn Mower is a corded mower that’s especially good on sloped lawns or those with non-traditional shapes. Its 1800W/360V capacity supports its use on larger lawns, as does its generous 36cm cutting width. Although you only have a choice of four cutting heights, the lowest one of 10mm is quite a close cut.

The 26L collection box won’t have you running to the compost heap with the grass clippings too often. Especially if you keep an eye on how full it is through the well-thought-out transparent window into it. Left-handed people will once again feel wanted with the dual control levers, one on each side of the handlebar. This feature also relieves hand and arm stress for right-handed people who may want to just switch it up after a while.

This Flymo EasiGlide Plus has the usual Flymo feature that respects that outdoor storage space is always at a premium. The handlebar folds down to allow you to transport the mower easily and to either hang it up for storage or to store it standing vertically.

Pros

  • Electric hover lawn mower with 1800W of power.
  • Cutting width is 36cm and cutting height range is in four steps from 10mm to 30mm.
  • Central manual cutting height adjustment.
  • Works well on sloped or awkwardly shaped lawns.
  • Collection box holds 26L of your grass cuttings.
  • Transparent window in collection box to see how full it is.
  • Ambidextrous use with levers on both sides of handlebars.
  • Cable length is 10m for a small to medium garden.
  • Handles fold flat for hanging or standing storage.
  • Weighs 11.4kg.

My Recommendation

We recommend the Flymo EasiGlide Plus 360V Hover Collect Lawn Mower for those who, despite their best efforts, have undulating lawns or those who are looking for a mower with a wider cut than usual and are looking for an electric hover mower that’s affordable and ideal for those medium to larger sized lawns. Just remember you are still restricted by a 10-meter power cord, so you might need an extension lead if you have a particularly long lawn.

7. Flymo Turbo Lite 250 Electric Hover Lawn Mower

Flymo Turbo Lite 250 Electric Hover Lawn Mower – 1400 W, 25 cm Cutting Width, Ambidextrous Handles, Folds Flat, Orange

I’ve already reviewed the Flymo Turbo Lite 250 Electric Hover Lawn Mower, which has a collection box which I was impressed with. However, if you’re in search of a lightweight and efficient Flymo hover mower for a small lawn, but don’t have a need to collect the clipping, this Flymo Turbo Lite 250 Electric Hover Lawn Mower is well worth considering. Because it doesn’t come with a collection box like the one I previously reviewed, this makes it slightly more lightweight and means it doesn’t collect the grass clippings. However, this feature offers some advantages over having a collection box.

Without a collection box, you have two options when it comes to the clippings. Firstly, if you cut your lawn regularly and only get a minimal amount of clipping, I recommend you leave them on the lawn. When you do this, they will naturally break down and return nutrients to the lawn. This is actually how robot lawn mowers work, they cut little and often, so you don’t notice the clipping. This is particularly beneficial if you mow frequently and the grass isn’t too long. However, if your grass has grown long and there is a significant amount of cut grass, it may be easier to simply rake the clipping with a grass rake and put them in your garden waste recycling bin. To be honest, on small lawns, this can be easier than collecting the grass clipping and having to stop the mower and empty the collection box several times especially if you opt for a smaller lawn but have a larger sized garden.

I think this Flymo Turbo Lite 250 is perfect for very small lawns. If you have a larger lawn, it’s probably better to invest in a larger model, such as the Flymo EasiGlide 300 Hover Lawn Mower, which offers a slightly wider cutting width but this does have a collection box. For compact gardens, though, this Turbo Lite 250 is what I would recommend. Remember, it has a narrow 25cm cutting width, but its lightweight design makes it easy to manoeuvre and store, especially if you have limited space.

Just like most basic hover mowers, adjusting the cutting height is simple enough. You can remove the spacers between the metal blade and the mower until you get the cutting height you’re happy with. The range varies from a close-cut 11mm (by using fewer spacers) to 31mm (by adding more spacers). This versatility allows you to accommodate various grass styles and preferences. What I will say is that it’s a bit of a faff changing the cutting heights, so it’s easier to set your height and then leave it at that. It is not quite like a mower with a lever where you can adjust the cutting height in seconds using a simple lever.

My Recommendation

If you are on the lookout for a small hover mower, but one that doesn’t collect the clipping, this Flymo Turbo Lite 250 Electric Hover Lawn Mower is a superb option for a small lawn. While it doesn’t collect the grass clippings, you can choose to leave them on the lawn to provide nutrients or manually collect them with a grass rake. Personally, I would recommend maybe collecting the first cut in spring but then mowing often and leaving them on the lawn to add nutrients back into the lawn.

8. Flymo EasiLife 350 Robotic Lawn Mower

Flymo EasiLife 350 Robotic Lawn Mower - Cuts Upto 350 sq m Ultra Quiet Mowing, Manicured Lawn, Bluetooth Application Control, Hose Washable, Lifestyle Functions, Frost Sensor, Orange and Grey

Once you’ve staked out the boundary for the Flymo EasiLife 350 Robotic Lawn Mower to operate within and used the Bluetooth smartphone Assist-U interface to set up the schedule, it’s on its own to quietly mow your grass. Whatever maximum 350mshape you’ve set the boundary, this robotic mower covers it in an irregular pattern so it doesn’t miss a bit or leave parts of stripes anywhere.

The cutting width is a fairly narrow 16cm, so you don’t notice any pattern in the fully cut grass. The cutting height range of 20mm to 50mm favours those who prefer their grass to remain a little longer. The grass clippings fall back to the lawn, but as robotic lawnmowers work by cutting every few days, they only cut a small amount of clipping each time. This help to keep the lawn healthy as it puts nutrients back into the lawn but without leaving a mess. The lawn mower programming may override your schedule if it’s raining or there’s frost due, only mowing your lawn in optimal conditions for the grass’ health. Or you can change the programming or see what’s happening with the mower all from your smartphone app, which is handy. It just makes setting everything up so much easier than old models.

Watch the video

When the battery is close to being fully discharged, this robotic motor finds its way home to the charging station. (Note, both the battery and the charging station are included in your purchase.) You can set the charging station anywhere around the edge of the lawn along with multiple start points for the mower.

Pros

  • Battery powered robotic lawn mower uses one 18V Lithium-ion battery.
  • Cutting width is 16cm and cutting height range is from 20mm to 50mm.
  • Uses an asymmetrical cutting pattern on your lawn.
  • Mows 350m2 of grass on one battery charge.
  • Handles slopes up to 35% with ease.
  • Adapts its cutting schedule to the weather conditions and to the grass growth conditions.
  • Bluetooth smartphone app and intuitive Assist-U interface for you to schedule, monitor and communicate with the lawn mower.
  • Safety sensor in case anyone lifts the robotic mower up when it’s in use.
  • Clean the mower by hosing it down with the garden hose.
  • Comes with battery and charging port, as well as 150 staples and 200m of boundary wires.
  • Weighs 7.3kg.

Cons

  • Need to stake out a boundary for the mower to remain within.

My Recommendation

If your idea of mowing the lawn is to sit back with a cold beverage on your patio and watch someone or something else do the work, the Flymo EasiLife 350 Robotic Lawn Mower is for you. No family squabbles about whose turn it is to mow the lawn. Overall it’s a fantastic robotic lawn mower that is also affordable in robot lawnmowers terms. Well worth considering if you have the budget.

Flymo Buyer’s Guide

Flymo is renowned for its high quality, distinctive bright orange and grey lawn hover mowers. My Buyer’s Guide briefly identifies the features common to most Flymo lawn mowers that give them their reputation for high quality, long service and ease of use.

Hover

Flymo hover mowers work by simply gliding along on a cushion of air, compared to rotary lawnmowers and cylinder mowers, which run along the ground.

Weight and manoeuvrability

Hover mowers are lighter than any other type of mower, and so are easier to manoeuvre around. You don’t have to run them in straight lines, although that is an option, you can move them from side to side or around in circles to create different or even no patterns in your cut grass. The lightest mower in my review is the Flymo Hover Vac 250 Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower which only weighs around 6.5kg.

Power choice

Like other lawn mowers, with hover mowers you have the choice of electric (corded), battery (cordless) and petrol power. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, mainly related to weight, mobility and maintenance. Bear in mind that whatever power source you add to the mower unit will increase its weight.

Most Flymo mowers are designed for small to medium size gardens and lawns. However, the petrol model I personally own easily handles large lawns and is even for semi-professional use. Flymo has also branched out into cordless mowers but they are not hovering mower type models. Most flymo hover mowers are still electric.

Controls

Most of the mowers in my review have the control levers on both sides of the handlebar. This lets both left- and right-handed people use their preferred hand to hold the throttle down.

Grass collection

This may seem surprising but not everyone wants their mower to pick up their grass clippings. Some gardeners leave the cuttings on the lawn as mulch with put nutrients back into the garden. Not all Flymo mowers come with a grass collection box to give gardeners this option.

Compact storage

Flymo seems to appreciate that there’s always a shortage of storage for garden equipment. Many of their lawn mowers allow the handle to fold flat. This lets you store the mower compactly in an upright position, either standing up against a wall or hanging on a wall hook which can be handy for saving space. Flymo is probably the best lawns for doing this with.

Final Conclusion

Each of the Flymo mowers in my review, while appearing similar, have features that best suit particular lawn and gardener circumstances. Whether you have a small or medium size lawn, have bits of lawn in different places or find it difficult to push a lawn mower, there’s a Flymo lawn mower, particularly a hower mower, for you.

My Best Pick is an affordable model of Flymo hover mower that works for almost everyone. The Flymo Glider Compact 330AX Electric Hover Collect Lawn Mower has all the features expected of a high-quality mower as well as being lightweight and easy to use.

If you decide either that a hover mower isn’t right for you or that you want to look outside the Flymo brand, our Best Hover Mowers and Best Lawn Mowers reviews have excellent information and recommendations.
