6 models designed to handle slopes up to 35%
Not all robot lawn mowers can handle steep slopes. That’s because of the safety tilt mechanism that sets off an alarm and stops the mower when they’re not on level ground.
The robot mowers in this review can handle slopes of 30% to 35% when they’re cutting your grass. We chose models designed for small, medium or large lawns to cover all domestic situations.
Below are summaries of the features of each lawn mower with links to our full-blown reviews for them.
My best picks for Small Sloped Lawns
1. Yard Force Compact 280R Robotic Lawnmower (280m2 )
The Yard Force Compact 280R Robotic Lawnmower can’t quite handle the 35% slopes the other robot mowers in our review can – it maxes out at 30%. But we include it as it’s designed to work best on small lawns up to 280m2. The (included) 20V Samsung Lithium-ion battery runs for 60 minutes on a full charge, and that’s a long time when you’re mowing a small lawn.
This Yard Force mower lacks some of the features of larger models – its scheduling options are limited and there’s only a manual programming option via the buttons on top of the mower body. The cutting heights are from 20mm to 55mm, which gives you a shaggier option for your lawn than most other mowers.
This is a robot mower which is smart enough to come in out of the rain and return to its recharging station in inclement weather.

2. Gardena Sileno City: Robotic Lawnmower (300m²)
The Gardena Sileno City: Robotic Lawnmower series gives you a choice of mowers for small to medium size lawns, all of which mow up and down slopes of 35% with ease. This series includes the mower for lawns 300 m² we link to above, one for smaller lawns up to 250m² and one for medium lawns up to 500m².
The Garden Silerno City (300m²) mower mows grass in a random pattern directed by its Sensor Cut system. It’s good at getting into corners and sharp angles and handles complex shapes well. It also works its way through narrow passages wider than 60cm without bumping into the sides.
Programming the Sileno City (300m²) is easy. You can do it manually using the buttons on top of the body of the mower. Or download the Bluetooth app to your smart phone and follow the instructions there. This is not a mobile/wi-fi app, however, so you do need to be standing close to your mower when you do this.
The (included) 18V Lithium-ion battery mows for 60 minutes on a full charge and takes 65 minutes to recharge.

My best picks for sloped medium lawns
3. Hyundai HYRM1000 Robot Lawnmower (625m2)
The Hyundai (HYRM1000) Lawnmower is suitable for medium-size lawns up to 625m². The brushless motor of this robot mower is powered by a 22.2V Lithium-ion battery (included) for efficient transmission of energy. This robot mower handles slopes of up to 30% handily.
This Hyundai mower has a sleek-looking body as all the manual control buttons are hidden under flaps on top of the body – except for the big, bright red STOP button. The only option for programming this mower is through these buttons as it doesn’t have a smart device app. You program when you want the mower to cut your grass, though it is smart enough to stay home when it’s raining.
The Hyundai (HYRM1000) has a larger range of cutting heights and more selections within it than most other robot mowers. Chose one of seven heights from within 25mm to 55mm. You also have a choice of four cutting patterns with a set cutting width of 18cm.

4. Flymo EasiLife 800 Robotic Lawn Mower (800 m²)
You can decide to run the Flymo EasiLife 800 Robotic Lawn Mower when everyone’s asleep as it’s one of the quietest robot mowers available. Its ability to handle slopes up to 35% covers most domestic situations on lawns up to 800m².
This is a smart mower. Schedule the mowing times manually through the screen and keyboard on the mower itself or through the app you download to your smartphone. The Assist-U interface helps you choose which of the four cutting patterns you need for your lawn at that time. This robot mower also has enough built-in sense to stay in its recharging station, whatever the programing, if it’s raining or there’s frost on your lawn.
Your choice of cutting heights are from 20mm to 50mm and the cutting width is set at 16cm, somewhat narrower than similar robot mowers.

My best picks for large sloped lawns
5. Gardena Sileno life Robot Mower with Bluetooth app (1250m2)
The Gardena Sileno life is similar to the Garden Sileno City but it mows larger lawns up to 1250m2. It cuts your lawn in a random pattern that it works out for itself once you’ve set up the boundary wire and the recharging station. It easily goes up and down 35% slopes, cutting your grass to your chosen length of between 20mm and 50mm.
The screen and keyboard on the mower body are hidden away below a flap and this is where you manually set up the schedule. Or download the Bluetooth app to your smartphone and work from there. Take note that this is not a mobile app so you do need to be in the vicinity of the mower when you set everything up. Three programs guide you through the set-up and scheduling process so you don’t miss out anything.
There’s more to this robot mower which we discuss in the full review of the Gardena Sileno life.
6. WORX WR153E L1500 Landroid Robotic Mower (1500m²)
If you’re concerned about how to program a robot lawn mower, the WORX WR153E L1500 Landroid Robotic Mower is a good choice if you have a large lawn – up to 1500m² – to care for. It mows on inclines up to 35%.
This mower comes already programmed with a basic mowing schedule. You can always override this timetable by using the screen and keyboard on the mower body or through the app you download to your smartphone.
This mower does come with a WORX 20V battery. If you already have power tools in the WORX series, you can use a battery from them as a second battery when the one included with this purchase runs out of charge in your long mowing session.
The AIA software of this robot mower works out the best mowing pattern once you’ve set the boundary perimeter. You have a choice of four cutting heights from 30mm to 60mm and the set cutting width is a standard 22cm.
Please check out the full review of the WORX WR153E L1500 Landroid Robotic Mower if it sounds like the one for you.
