Maxi Vac Ash Vacuum Cleaner

OUR TOP RECOMMENDED STOVE ACCESSORY

We looked at a few ash vacuums which you can see here, however most had problems with the ash constantly blocking the pipe but then we came across the Maxi Vac by Clifford James vac. What makes this model different is it’s designed to be used with hot or cold ash, comes with a large 15 litre box and is powered by a powerful 800w motor which seems to solve the blocking issue associated with a-lot of other models. it also comes comes with a 2 year guarantee for full peace of mind.

There is nothing better then sitting in front of a real fire, but if there is one job every real wood burner stove owner really could do without, it is cleaning out the left over ash the following day, however its simply a job that needs doing and can get very messy.

You can simply brush and sweep the ashes out but this can sometimes be a little messy, not to mention awkward to do and get right into the corners of the stove.

For anyone looking for a cleaner, more efficient way to clean the left over ash from your stove, which is probably everyone, then the ash vacuum cleaner is the solution.

Valiant Premium IV 4-Blade Heat Powered Log Burner & Stove Fan

Valiant (FIR361) Premium IV 4-Blade Heat Powered Log Burner & Stove Fan, Black

It may not look like much but this little amazing device is actually a small electric fan than will help disperse the heat from the stove outwards, into the room. They are ideal for open rooms where you want to make your stove more efficient. What makes it so amazing is that it creates it’s own electricity from the heat from the stove, how it works is a little more complicated (we have described in simple terms below how it works).

It stands 19.9cm tall by 18cm wide including the blade and has a depth of only 11cm so will fit nicely on top of most stoves and is able to work on most wood or coal stoves and is perfect for all models with a flat top and for convector type twin skinned and topped stoves that are operating at a normal surface temperature of 80°C and 250°C (175 - 480°F).

It starts automatically when the surface template of the stove gets to around 50°C and begins to disperse the heat into the room. It works with the temperature of the stove so the hotter the stove the faster it turns. One feature we really like is the Inbuilt protection system which stop the fan overheating by lifting itself slightly above the stove, its hard to describe but its excellent to see, that being said, you should be monitoring your stove with a thermometer to make sure it does not get to hot.

If you regularly burn logs, especially if you cut your own up, then having a wood moisture metre can really come in handy. As you probably know, you should only really used seasoned wood with a low moisture content of no more than 20%.

Wood that is not seasoned can reduce the life and damage your fire stove as well as cause problems such as tarring up the glass window and chimney which also increases the risk of chimney fire. Simply push the spikes into the wood to get a reading. Even if you buy seasoned wood it is a handy little gadget to make sure your wood really is seasoned. The moisture meter is probably the most important bit of kit you can have as ensuring your wood as seasoned is so important.

Wood Burning Stove Tips

  • Heat control – It is often better to have the draft control fully open and the flames intense, you can then control the heat by the amount of wood on the fire not with the draft control.
  • Hardwoods produce more heat than softwoods, and softwoods are better in early winter and late winter when it is not as cold,
  • If you prepare your own wood it should be prepared in early spring for use in late Autumn, sometimes hardwoods such as oak can take longer.
  • Stack wood so it is exposed to the sun and wind over summer, you only need to cover the top of the wood stack.
