Buyers Guide

Buying a trampoline requires you to do proper homework beforehand. You need to consider the age of intended users, how big they are, the size of your garden, the exact use of the trampoline, your budget, among other things. Do you even know what makes a good trampoline? Let's study trampolines a bit then expand on the factors to consider further down.

Basic parts of a trampoline

Frame

The frame is the foundation of every trampoline. Frames are usually made of galvanised, rust-resistant steel in order to withstand the effects of elements. Frame thickness is important as well as some are just flimsy and tend to bend if put under a lot of pressure, however, this a rare occurrence. The frame also consists of the legs and many support legs means increased overall stability.

Springs

The springs deliver the bounce on a trampoline and determine how high you can jump. Not all springs are created equal, but high-quality trampoline springs are made of thicker steel gauge for durability and have more coils to provide long-lasting bounces. The spring length has to be 7 inches or longer. Longer springs stretch more effectively to give a 'smooth bounce', unlike 6 inches or less springs that have a minimal stretch. Young children may enjoy jumping on a 6-inch spring trampoline but they will find it less fun as they grow due to a less powerful bounce.

Safety pads

The frame and springs are metal components that hold the trampoline jumping in place. Obviously, a child will get injured if they land on the metal structures. The use of safety pads on top of the frame and springs largely prevents the risk of accidents. They function as buffers around the edges, protecting jumpers from landing in the gaps between the springs or their feet getting caught by the springs. Padding makes the landing softer too. Some cheaper models have less padding which can be a little more uncomfortable and the sun can also damage the padding if made from cheaper materials and its essential they are UV resistant which all good trampolines should be.

Safety enclosure

Many trampolines come with a safety net; make sure yours has, specially if its a raised trampoline and not a ground level model. The most common accident relating to the use of trampolines is people felling off the trampolines and getting hurt upon hitting the ground. This will not happen with a safety enclosure surrounding your trampoline, its amazing how many people think it ok to not fit the safety netting, its simply not worth the risk.

Trampoline shapes

Trampolines come in various shapes and each one has it's pros over the other. The popular designs include:

Round trampolines

These are the most common for recreational activities at home. Some people argue that these trampolines are safer as they tend to pull the jumper towards the centre and away from the hard edges. The size range is from 6ft to 16ft diameter.

Rectangular trampolines

These are considered the ideal trampolines for professional trampolinists and gymnasts but some home models are also rectangular. They are usually bigger than round counterparts and provide powerful bounces to throw jumpers as high as possible. Rectangle trampolines are very large, in the region of 10 x 17ft, and require lots of space in a back garden. They are also more expensive than round trampolines.

Oval trampolines

They are some of the largest trampolines out there. Their oval shapes provide more jumping area, making them perfect for a number of jumpers at the same time. Oval trampolines are usually expensive as well and many people opt for round or rectangular models instead.

Runner-up

A perfect shape for narrow gardens and gives users freedom to bounce all over. Frame is made from durable galvanised steel with decent thickness to support a user weight of up to 114kg. User comfort was well thought of with the addition of 27mm thick foam padding surrounded by a safety net.

Affords users plenty of bouncing surface thanks to an oval shape

A perfect shape for narrow gardens and gives users freedom to bounce all over. Frame is made from durable galvanised steel with decent thickness to support a user weight of up to 114kg. User comfort was well thought of with the addition of 27mm thick foam padding surrounded by a safety net.  A brilliant trampoline if you have the space with the advantage that it won't pull the user to the centre like round models tend to do.

Factors to consider in choosing a trampoline

Looking for your first trampoline? Make sure to examine the following features before you make a decision:

Weight limit

Every trampoline has one; the maximum user weight it can withstand at a time. The lower limit is around 100kg with the very large trampolines capable of holding up to 250kg. So if a trampoline has a weight limit of 120kg, it means only two teenagers can jump on it at the same time, or one adult plus one small child. So think about who will be using the trampoline and how much they weigh and you will get an ideal weight capacity.

Dimensions

These are defined as the height, width, and diameter (for round trampolines). Trampoline diameters range from 6ft to 14ft and the ground height is anywhere from 60cm to 100cm.  Models that are higher from the ground require a ladder for climbing onto them, whereas those closer to the ground are easy to get onto. In addition, make sure you have enough room for the trampoline you want to buy.

Enclosure

Almost a must-have feature whether the trampoline is used by kids or adults. Enclosures can be internal or external. Internal enclosures are deemed the safest as they prevent users from going into contact with the support poles. Cheaper models are mostly the ones with external enclosures.

Padding

The thicker the padding, the better the protection against potential injuries. Something else you may want to pay attention to is whether or not the padding material is weatherproof. The thicker the padding, usually measured in mm, the better.

Ladder

A great extra but not every other trampoline comes with one. Find one if you want small children to enjoy the trampoline. Furthermore, jumping onto the trampoline's edge can be dangerous so a ladder is almost a must-have accessory and recommended.

Anchor kit

Buy this one if you plan to leave your trampoline outside all year round. It will keep the unit firmly secured to the ground for months.

Price

Let's face it, our purchasing powers vary greatly. Trampolines are available in budget to high end models as well, so you can always go for what you can afford. Trampoline prices range from £100 to £800 depending on the size, shape, weight capacity, and brand, among other features. You can get some models at around £100 but the quality is usually not as good, that being said some smaller ones at around £100 seem well made, however you want find a good medium sized model for this price. We found you could get a good 10ft trampoline for around £150.

Budget Friendly

This comes in four sizes and even the largest 12ft version costs less than £200, far less than many other models of the same size. The smaller versions can easily slot into limited spaces and still provide a safe environment to jump in, the trampolines having met CE, GS, TUV and EN71 standards.

Why do you need a trampoline anyway?

Trampolines provide a great cardio workout for a whole family, and consequently help improve overall health. As a low impact exercise, trampolining can improve posture and balance, and the impact strengthens the bones. The activity as well helps reduce stress, boosts the immune system and improves blood circulation.

There are lots of fun and a great way to get children outdoors and active.

So would you rather have your kids sitting lazy in front of a TV or jumping outside to stay fit and healthy.

Thanks to a weldless design, this trampoline offers up to 2.5 million bounces. All in all, we recommend the Zero Gravity Ultima 4 since it cuts across everyone's needs.

Zero Gravity is a proud manufacturer of high quality trampolines and the Zero Gravity Ultima 4 leads their range of fleet. The model is available in different sizes including 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, 12ft, and 14 ft for those who are lucky enough to have larger gardens. As a matter of fact, your first decision is to select the ideal size for your children and garden. Each size has its maximum user weight with the 12ft and 14ft sizes perfect for even adults to jump on. We reckon that the 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, 12ft, and 14ft have a carry weight of 50kgs, 75kgs, 100kgs, 100kgs, and 100kgs, respectively. The larger ones have actually been tested to a maximum user weight of 500kgs in Zero Gravity testing lab. They all have a black design with blue and yellow rims

The genuine advantage of this trampoline over flimsy models is the addition of a safety net on the inside of the frame which we think is safer. This is something you can set up when you are not on the ring side to supervise your kids playing. Having the net surround the trampoline improves safety in the event of a fall. The net additionally comes down quickly when needed, thanks to a quick release system. This trampoline even gained EN71 certification, which establishes the outdoor safety standards for toys.

Some trampolines are a real pain to assemble. This one comes with pretty straightforward instructions and the whole thing goes up in a few hours. While some models require you to completely bring apart the trampoline, the Zero Gravity single click system ensures the trampoline comes down easily for storage. You don't require any hardware to disassemble it which is handy and more user friendly, specially if your not the DIY type.

The Zero Gravity patented weldless system is another standout feature of this trampoline. Many trampolines have a welded steel frame, specially cheaper models, which tend to crack after a million cycles (bounces) in normal use. The weldless system is proven to last for more than 2.5 million cycles, making this trampoline more likely to last for many years. The jumping mat itself is durable with 20mm PVC padding on the outer and it's very comfortable. PVC material is strong and won't tear or rot under UV rays, again cheaper models use PE to cut cost but it not as resistant to UV rays or as strong. This unit really offers great fun in a safe surrounding and comes at a great price.

Pros

  • Available in many sizes including 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, 12ft and 24ft.
  • Easy to assemble and take apart when needed due to Zero Gravity single click system.
  • Has a durable construction including a sturdy frame and strong jumping mat.
  • Guarantees high level of safety with the use of a safety net and protective safety pads.

  • Comes in different sizes for you to choose an ideal size.
  • Provides up to 2.5 million cycles due to a weldless design, more than a standard welded trampoline.
  • Comes with a ladder for safe climbing and descending, especially for younger children.
  •  Telephone helpline for added help if needed.

Cons

  • Does not include an anchor kit but most people will not need one.

Final Conclusion

The Zero Gravity Ultima 4 is a true example of a top quality trampoline that has ben well designed and will last for many years. The fact that it comes in a range of sizes means almost everyone can get a piece of it and at different budgets.

The trampolines are solid and include a ladder but its worth mentioning its a little hard on your feet but not a big issue. The assembly instructions are very useful, however, building the trampoline may take some time as with most models.

Thanks to a weldless design, its certainly much stronger than some models as there are not any welded joints that can break which we like and we think is a much better design. The 12ft and 14ft models can even be enjoyed by adults, so you can get maximum value for money with one of these larger models.

All in all, we recommend the Zero Gravity Ultima 4 trampoline since it cuts across everyone's needs and is very well made and everything has been well thought out. Zero Gravity have only used the best materials so we are sure it will last for many years.

After much consideration and comparing it against many different models, we came to the conclusion that this model should be the winner of our 'Best Pick' as its probably the best model for most people looking for a good trampoline for there children and even teenagers.

Skyhigh 8 Foot x 14 Foot Oval Trampoline

The Skyhigh 8 Foot x 14 Foot Oval Trampoline is obviously a decent choice if you need a number of users to enjoy themselves at the same time. The dimensions are additionally favourable for narrow gardens and the overall build is on another level. A galvanised steel frame promises long-term durability and this one is even guaranteed to last more than 10 years. We love the fact that every bit you need for assembly is included such as netting, poles, fixings, and spring tools, though some reviewers have disapproved of the manual. Rest assured of unmatched performance once you figure your way around the assembly and this one truly deserves the best trampoline title in our opinion.

Skyhigh 8 Foot x 14 Foot Oval Trampoline

Plenty of bouncing area thanks to an oval design

Perfect design for narrow gardens which additionally offers ample bouncing surface. 114kg maximum user weight sounds decent for both kids and adults too.

The Skyhigh 8 Foot x 14 Foot Oval Trampoline is ideal for back gardens that are longer than they are wide or for anyone simply looking for a more oval design as they don't seem to pull the user to the centre like round models do. The oval design has an advantage over round trampolines in that it offers a more expressive bounce than a round one. Whilst as already mentioned, a round trampoline tends to pull users to the centre, the shape of this trampoline gives them more freedom to bounce.

The frame is made of galvanised steel that is extremely resistant to rust and its 42mm thickness ensures decent stability whilst being able to withstand impact. The trampoline's weight limit is 114kg (18 stone), which suits growing kids and adults alike.

Whilst providing amazing excitement, the Skyhigh Oval is additionally designed to be safe. It has 27mm thick surround padding which is slightly thicker than our 'Best Pick' that ensures the user doesn't come into contact with the hard frame or springs. A safety enclosure net then surrounds the frame, allowing the user to bounce inside a safe environment. There's even a zipper entry on one side of the net for getting in and out of the jumping area but its worth mentioning this cannot be placed at the narrow ends because of the way the net fastens to the bars.

The bouncing surface sits on 70 high-performance springs that provide a very exciting bounce. The bouncing surface features dark green, waterproof PVC that will withstand other elements as well, much better than cheaper PE.

You will have to pay a fair bit more to get a ladder included for getting up to the trampoline and a cover to prevent entering your new unit, would be nice if it came with these as standard.

Worth mentioning is the 10-year warranty on this trampoline's frame, which is a huge bonus. All other parts enjoy a reasonable 1-year warranty. The package also includes an instruction manual to help you assemble the trampoline with ease. The size and design of this trampoline in addition to high-quality construction gives enough conviction for having it on top of your models consideration list.

Pros

  • Has a great shape to fit into narrow gardens whilst still providing plenty of bouncing space.
  • Easy to set up with instructions included.
  • Suits both growing kids and adults due to a high weight limit of 114kg.
  • Offers more freedom to bounce unlike round trampolines that gravitates users towards the centre.
  • Safe to bounce on due to the padding done on the frame and springs.
  • Frame is covered by  10-year warranty for complete peace of mind.

Cons

  • Some may struggle to understand the assembly instructions.

Final Conclusion

The Skyhigh 8 Foot x 14 Foot Oval Trampoline is obviously a decent choice if you need a number of users to enjoy themselves at the same time. The dimensions are additionally favourable for narrow gardens and the overall build is on another level.

A galvanised steel frame promises long-term durability and this one is even guaranteed to last more than 10 years which offers peace of mind. We love the fact that every bit you need for assembly is included such as netting, poles, fixings, and spring tools, though some reviewers have disapproved of the manual when we did our research.

Rest assured of unmatched performance once you figure your way around the assembly and this one truly deserves the top trampoline title in our opinion.

Ultrasport Garden Trampoline

If you are concerned about the massive footprint larger trampolines have and looking for a space-saving option, the Ultrasport Garden Trampoline is an excellent choice. It offers a great deal of fun and maximum safety, thanks to the addition of a safety net and pole padding. The UV coating on the jumping sheet ensures long-lasting performance and the galvanised steel springs will withstand the effects of elements for years. It does come with set up instructions but some previous buyers have raised issues about the job being a little hard. Assembly is one-time thing anyways and so we still strongly recommend this unit for its overall quality.

Compact Pick

This trampoline is constructed with the best materials to ensure strength and durability. It comes in mid-range sizes and makes a solid space-effective option.

Ultrasport Garden Trampoline

Small on space and budget

This trampoline is constructed with the best materials to ensure strength and durability. It comes in mid-range sizes and makes a solid space-effective option and probably one of the easiest to build.

The Ultrasport Garden Trampoline is available in four sizes including 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, and 12ft. This range suggests the trampolines are adequate for smaller gardens or if you want something smaller than the usual 14ft. It comes with a safety net as standard to protect kids from falling over in case they land badly, the only negative point ti that the bars do not curve outwards like other designs but they are well padded.

The frame features a galvanised steel construction with 3 W-shaped legs offering maximum support. The total height of the trampoline is 214cm from the ground with the entry height at 60cm (3ft). The trampoline has 48 galvanised steel springs that are solidly built and offer a fulfilling bounce experience due to their 6 inch length but you need some strength to attch them. Keep in mind that the number of springs varies from size to size as this one with 48 springs is the 8ft trampoline. The galvanised steel won't rust under the elements, so you can rest easy when the trampoline is left outside. The frame is then padded all around with a 10mm material to prevent injuries should someone land on it.

This trampoline's enclosure poles don't really curve outwards from the net but the net does pull itself inwards in the centre to give the same  effect, this does ass a layer of safety and it includes galvanised 25mm thick tubes. The jumping mat is made from durable polypropylene and it benefits from a UV-resistant coating for longevity.

It arrives nicely packaged with assembly instructions included. It takes up to two hours to set it up and the job is best done by two people without rushing, it probably one of the easiest trampolines to build though. The trampoline has an impressive weight limit of 120kg, which should be enough for most users. That's about up to three kids but no more than one adult should jump on this trampoline. An anchor kit can be bought separately to firmly secure the trampoline on the ground if needed. The Ultrasport Garden Trampoline is a decent choice for a mid-sized trampoline and its quality is worth the price and with a ease of building being a big plus point.

Pros

  • Crafted from durable polypropylene material with a coating that protects against UV rays.
  • Includes pole padding for increased protection against accidents.
  • Designed with strong and rust-resistant jumping springs.
  • Supplied with a safety net for complete protection whilst jumping.
  • Comes with the assembly instructions and is easy to build.

Cons

  • A bit expensive compared with other models in the same size range.

Final Conclusion

If you are concerned about the massive footprint larger trampolines have and looking for a space-saving option, the Ultrasport Garden Trampoline is an excellent choice if you choose one of the smaller sizes. It offers a great deal of fun and maximum safety, thanks to the addition of a safety net and pole padding. The UV coating on the jumping sheet ensures long-lasting performance and the galvanised steel springs will withstand the effects of elements for years.

Overall another great trampoline with considering.

kanga Premium Trampoline

This is an affordable trampoline for anyone looking for a sizeable unit. You will love the extras on offer such as ladder, anchor kit and safety net, yet you pay very little to secure the trampoline. The quality isn't cheap at all as the frame is galvanised and the jumping mat coated with a UV resistant material. Then you have the option to choose an ideal size and the weight tolerance is on the higher end. We found a few issues with the product but they are not deal breakers really. This trampoline will be perfect for young children and it fits into any garden without pain.

Budget Pick

Amazing extras on this model including safety net, ladder and free anchor kit. Certainly worth the money and available in small to medium sizes.

kanga 6ft / 8ft / 10ft / 12ft Premium Trampoline

Great alternative for small to large size gardens

Amazing extras on this model including safety net, ladder and free anchor kit. Certainly worth the money and available in small to medium sizes.

Available in 6ft, 8ft, 10ft, and 12ft versions, the Kanga Premium Trampoline provides a great way to have fun outside depending on your space needs. The smaller 6ft and 8ft are perfect for children only, whilst the 10ft and 12ft can accommodate teenagers and adults alike.

The frame is heavy duty and the tubes are galvanised inside and out for improved durability. The frame height is 65cm and there's a safety enclosure which is 180cm in height. The jumping mat diameter of this 10ft model version in review is 2.63m which is quite an ample amount of room to bounce on. It has a weight tolerance of 120kgs, allowing two teenagers or one adult and a child to bounce at the same time.

The springs are excellently padded by a 14mm thick PE material with EPE foam on the inside to improve safety on landing. It is UV resistant as well, so you can rest assured that it'll not deteriorate. No worries about kids falling over either, thanks to the safety enclosure amd curving upright bars to reduce contact with bars in the event of a fall, even so they are still padded just in case. Also supplied with this trampoline is a sturdy ladder to help users climb and alight from the trampoline in a safer manner, remember most models don't include a ladder so this is an extra really.

First time home assembly is required and thankfully you get a detailed instructions manual that has been done in English. You also get a free anchor kit, otherwise, going for over £25 on a normal day and this will help you secure the trampoline on the ground. Kanga have a reliable customer service as well that is open from Monday to Friday for any help needed with the trampoline. They simply want you to be happy with your purchase and we are certain you will love the trampoline's performance.

Pros

  • Relatively easy to assemble and take down when needed.
  • Comes with fantastic add-ons such as ladder, ladder, and trampoline cover.
  • The trampoline material is made from high-quality synthetic material.
  • Suitable for both children and adults with a maximum user weight of 120kgs.
  • Offers a comfortable bounce due to soft padding on springs.
  •  Telephone support for extra peace of mind should you have any problems.

Cons

  • Assembly instructions could be better.

Final Conclusion

This is an affordable trampoline for anyone looking for a sizeable model and has the added benefit or a ladder and anchor set included, yet it still comes a very affordable price. The quality isn't cheap at all as the frame is galvanised and the jumping mat coated with a UV resistant material.

Then you have the option to choose an ideal size and the weight tolerance is on the higher end. We found a few issues with the product but they are not deal breakers really. This trampoline will be perfect for young children and it fits into any garden without pain and comes at a very good price but the quality is perhaps not quiet as good as some models as it used PE for example instead of PVC which is better. However, its still a good model and come with everything needed and no hidden extras to buy.

Upper Bounce Easy Assemble Spacious Rectangular Trampoline

Massive trampoline, top of its class with heavy-duty frame structure, rust-resistant springs, incredibly durable jumping mat, protective safety pads, and foam covered poles. These features come at a premium, though.

Upper Bounce specialises in making top quality trampolines that deliver safe entertainment and enjoyment for the whole family. The Upper Bounce Easy Assemble Spacious Rectangular Trampoline is an ideal example of what we've come to expect from the very best trampolines on the market.

First off is the easy assembly/disassemble feature and it even has a build app to help with assembly which is something we have not seen before, much better than unclear paper instruction. You virtually won't require any complicated hardware to set up the trampoline and task takes a few hours or less for the more experienced. It can also be taken down easily and stored indoors during the harsh winter months if you prefer, probably advised for the price you pay even though it is rust resistant.

The construction is superb with the frame made of heavy duty steel with a black coating for extra durability. Welded sockets on the trampoline hold the upper enclosure poles in place and, in turn, prevents the frame from twisting whilst reinforcing the connection between the frame and the poles. The trampoline uses rust-free galvanised springs to offer maximum strength and bouncing.

With a 500-pound (227kgs) weight limit, this trampoline will allow many people to jump at the same time. Onto the jumping mat, it's made from premium polypropylene mesh material with 8-row stitching that provides enhanced protection against tearing, thus assuring enjoyment for many years.

The trampoline comes with a premium safety enclosure net with dual closure system featuring zippers and buckles to help keep kids safely inside it. The net is crafted from 100% high-quality Terylene mesh and it creates an exciting jumping area without limiting visibility. It completely attaches to the jumping mat through V-rings in a way that leaves no dangerous gaps between the net and jumping surface. The poles feature foam padding of strong vinyl material to offer comfort and added protection just in case.

As a parent, you might be somehow stressed over the hardness of the frame and springs. They are supposed to be very tough anyways but users may be hurt landing on these hard parts. As such, Upper Bounce secures the hard parts with safety pads to maximise comfort on landing. The strong and high-quality pads feature 1-inch thick foam thickness EPE, which contains the best shock absorbing properties. The high-density closed-cell foam does not absorb mildew, water or lose shape.

Clearly, this trampoline is well built to provide superior performance for years but you do pay extra for it.

  • Easy to assemble and take down as needed.
